Hector Sanchez ready to return for Giants
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Hector Sanchez gets a crack at first base
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

The Giants have proven willing to experiment with the first base position in recent years, and catcher Hector Sanchez was just the latest unfamiliar player to get a shot at the position. Sanchez  started at first base Tuesday against the Braves.

"He has pretty good hands and I think he can handle it," manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com "We'll have to see how it goes. With [Brandon] Belt out, we're going to get a little creative here."

Of course, Sanchez's defensive acumen at a position he has played just once before, in a spring training game, isn't the reason he is in the lineup. Sanchez is hitting .353 over the last 10 games, and ranks fifth on the team with 16 RBI in just 64 trips to the plate.

"That's why he's out there today," Bochy said. "He's been driving in some key runs. You try to find a way to get that bat in the lineup."

Hector Sanchez drives in three in four-hit game Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez went 4 for 7 with three RBI in his team's 11-10, 13-inning win over the Pirates Monday.

Sanchez's output exemplified a Giants offensive attack that racked up 20 hits against the Pirates but managed just three extra-base hits, all doubles. The San Francisco catcher knocked RBI singles in the first, sixth and seventh innings. He has hit .239/.260/.413 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 46 at-bats.

Hector Sanchez shows rare power
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez has a well-deserved reputation as a light-hitting reserve, but he turned that script around with a huge performance Wednesday against the Rockies.

Sanchez, who entered the game with just six career home runs in 164 games, slugged two to help the Giants to a 12-10 win. He went deep for a solo home run to give the Giants a lead in the eighth, and then came up with a grand slam in the 11th to give the Giants the win.

He finished the game 2 for 6 with five RBI, the latter of which is a career-high total. He is now hitting .161/.206/.419 on the season.

Hector Sanchez drives in two in first start
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez made his first start of the season Thursday, and he made a solid impact in an 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

Sanchez went 1 for 3 before being pulled late for a pinch-runner, driving in two runs in the game. He drove in one on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and then sparked a rally with his eighth-inning RBI double.

Sanchez is 2 for 4 on the season, with both of his hits going for doubles, halfway to his 2013 total, when he hit .248 for the season.
