Hector Sanchez shows rare power
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez has a well-deserved reputation as a light-hitting reserve, but he turned that script around with a huge performance Wednesday against the Rockies.

Sanchez, who entered the game with just six career home runs in 164 games, slugged two to help the Giants to a 12-10 win. He went deep for a solo home run to give the Giants a lead in the eighth, and then came up with a grand slam in the 11th to give the Giants the win.

He finished the game 2 for 6 with five RBI, the latter of which is a career-high total. He is now hitting .161/.206/.419 on the season.

Hector Sanchez drives in two in first start
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez made his first start of the season Thursday, and he made a solid impact in an 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

Sanchez went 1 for 3 before being pulled late for a pinch-runner, driving in two runs in the game. He drove in one on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and then sparked a rally with his eighth-inning RBI double.

Sanchez is 2 for 4 on the season, with both of his hits going for doubles, halfway to his 2013 total, when he hit .248 for the season.

Buster Posey to rest Thursday, possibly over weekend
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

The Giants plan to be proactive with catcher Buster Posey's rest, and manager Bruce Bochy already has his first day off lined up. Bochy told MLB.com Tuesday he will rest Posey Thursday against the Diamondbacks, in the day game after a night game, which should be his usual pattern.

The improvements made by backup Hector Sanchez should help make finding off days for Posey easier, a fact Bochy readily acknowledged.

"[It] is going to make it a little bit easier to give Buster a few days [off] here and there," Bochy told MLB.com. "Both of them will benefit from it."

Posey may get his second day off at some point during the team's three-game weekend series with the Dodgers. Any extra-inning games might make the decision easier for Bochy, as well.

"We'll see how the games go. That plays a part in it," Bochy said

Sanchez appeared in 63 games last season, with Posey spending part of his season at first base. Posey still appeared in 148 games, 121 behind the plate.

Hector Sanchez: My shoulder is 100 percent
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

No backup catcher for the Giants is destined for much playing time behind Buster Posey, but at least Hector Sanchez will feel good when he does squat behind the plate once a week.

Sanchez not only lost 20 pounds in the offseason, but has deemed his shoulder to be fine. It landed him on the disabled list late in the 2013 season.

Hector Sanchez hits another three-run homer
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com

Giants catcher Hector Sanchez homered during Friday's 14-10 win at Miami. Sanchez went deep in the fourth inning for a three-run shot.

The second home run of the season was a big one for Sanchez. He finished the game 1 for 6 with three strikeouts otherwise. Sanchez is batting .222 on the year.

Both of Sanchez's homers have come in the last two games. In fact, his three-run home run on Thursday night defeated the Nationals. San Francisco was down 3-1 before Sanchez went deep and they won 4-3. Sanchez has gone 2 for 7 with six RBI in his last two games, but has gone just 5 for 22 (.227) with the same six RBI over his last 15 games.
