Blue Jays' Russell Martin, R.A. Dickey starting to develop chemistry
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

After their first pitching and catching session of the spring, Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin said he had no issues trying to catch R.A. Dickey's knuckleball, reports MLB.com.

"I think he's probably a little bit impressed with how I'm able to catch it and not struggle too much," Martin said. "I'm not making it look too pretty back there, but I think as long as I catch the ball, I think that's the most important part."

Dickey has struggled to find a catcher over the last two seasons with the Blue Jays that can handle his knuckleball, but said Martin appears to be the perfect match.

"Russell's a great athlete, and more than that, he has a real willingness and desire to unpack what it takes to catch it well," Dickey said. "I don't anticipate us having any trouble. I think he's going to be able to do it."

Blue Jays' R.A. Dickey not getting caught up in expectations
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey is learning from his past. He is making sure to not worry about what people expect to see from him or the team this year, according to the Toronto Sun.

"After what happened in the 2013 season, I've always been cautious to say 'Oh, we're great,'" Dickey said. "That was a learning experience. It seems like on paper we've made some real improvements. We've certainly added some pieces. I hope we're going to be great, but we still have to find that out."

Dickey went 14-13 in 2014 with a 3.71 ERA and 173 strikeouts in 215 2/3 innings pitched.

"It's funny how it goes," Dickey said. "When the season ends, you're like 'I don't ever want to see a baseball again, forever.' Then as the off-season goes along, you start getting fevered up again. There's something innate about it. Your body knows it's time and you start getting hungry to do it again. The biggest hurdle for me is always family. The hardest thing about it for me is to look at my eight-year-old's eyes and see them well up with water because I'm leaving for an extended time again."

Blue Jays' Dickey has faith in Russell Martin catching his knuckleball
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey is excited about new catcher Russell Martin and believes he can catch his knuckleball, SportsNet.com reports.

“Nothing is going to replace time spent together, and so I think from the get-go, we’re probably going to be spending a lot of time on the side, bullpens, playing catch so that he can get a feel for what that pitch does and see if he feels like it’s something he can do every day that I pitch, that’s 34 starts,” Dickey said.

Martin said he expects to be the catcher when Dickey starts and doesn't believe the knuckleball will be a problem.

Dickey went 14-13 in 2014, posting a 3.71 ERA in 215 2/3 innings.

R.A. Dickey allows two runs in win vs. Mariners
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey earned a win Tuesday, giving up two earned runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out six in his team's 10-2 victory over the Mariners.

Dickey (14-12) gave up two runs in the third inning to fall behind 2-1, but the Blue Jays offense took advantage of a rare off-night by Felix Hernandez to rack up seven runs in the fifth and help Dickey cruise to a win in his sixth straight quality start. He owns a 3.78 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 171:71 K:BB ratio in 209 2/3 innings. Dickey's slated to face the Orioles in the season finale Sunday.

R.A. Dickey unable to factor into the decision
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey tossed a quality start but was unable to factor into the decision Thursday night against the Yankees in New York.

Dickey allowed a run-scoring double to Stephen Drew in the fifth and a solo home run to Derek Jeter in the sixth. He permitted two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings of work. Of his 89 pitches, 60 were strikes.

Dickey owns a 3.82 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP over 32 starts (202 2/3 innings). His next start will come Tuesday at home against Seattle.
