Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran hit his 17th home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

Beltran finished 2 for 3 with the solo shot, a double and a walk. Beltran is now slugging .552 and on pace for just under 40 home runs over a full season of at-bats. Both totals would be his highest marks since 2006, when he hit 41 home runs and finished fourth in the MVP voting with the Mets.

Beltran had solo shots in the second and the ninth innings. He added a triple and finished 3 for 6 with three runs scored and two RBI. He extended his hitting streak to 14 games. He is hitting .369 (24 for 65) with six homers and 15 RBI over that span.

Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran was out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at the Mets, sitting for the first time in four games. Allen Craig moved over from first base to take his place in right field, with Matt Adams playing first base.

Beltran is in the middle of a 10-game hitting streak, batting .362 (17 for 47) with four home runs during that stretch.
