Cardinals to attempt to trade RP Randy Choate
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Cardinals will look to move relief pitcher Randy Choate this offseason, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

I think in Choate’s case, for us, he’s fairly one-dimensional," general manager John Mozeliak said. "That makes it difficult for us to use him, particularly during a long season."

Choate posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB ratio in 36 innings during the regular season. He fared much better against left-handed hitters, who hit .093/.205/.147 in 75 at-bats against the reliever. Righties posted a .938 OPS when facing Choate in 2014.

Cardinals RP Randy Choate takes loss in Game 3 of NLCS
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Cardinals relief pitcher Randy Choate was stuck with a loss Tuesday, giving up a run on a hit and a walk while not recording an out in his team's 5-4, 10-inning defeat against the Giants in Game 3 of the NLCS.

Choate (0-1) began the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk before surrendering a single, putting the potential winning run in scoring position with no outs. He then airmailed a throw to first base on an attempted sacrifice to bring the lead runner around to score on a walkoff error. The Cardinals will be looking to even the series Wednesday in Game 4.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Choate (1-2) was called upon with the bases loaded and two outs after back-to-back walks by starter Shelby Miller, and he immediately induced a groundball to end the inning. The Cardinals were able to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh and get Choate his first win. He owns a 6.62 ERA and 15:7 K:BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings.
