Wilson allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk and struck out four over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday against San Diego.
After allowing 10 runs over 9.2 innings in his first two outings of June, he now has consecutive quality starts. However, he has given up at least six hits in all but one of his past eight starts and has struck out more than four batters just once in that span. Unless he can start missing more bats, Wilson isn't going be able to do much better than his current 4.19 ERA.
Wilson (3-5) gave up just three hits over the course of eight scoreless innings Thursday in a win over the Red Sox. He struck out six and walked one.
Well, that was rather unexpected -- the Red Sox lead the majors in team batting average and runs scored by solid margins, while Wilson hadn't won a game since May 11 and has given up five runs in three of his five starts in that span. He may have temporarily saved his rotation spot by pitching so well Thursday, but the soft-tossing righty isn't a good bet to duplicate this performance.
Wilson gave up five runs on seven hits and a trio of walks Thursday in Toronto. He struck out three and didn't receive a decision in the eventual 6-5 win.
Wilson was fortunate to get enough help from his offense that he avoided taking his fifth consecutive loss despite giving up five runs for the second straight outing. Fantasy owners who were fooled by the smoke and mirrors the 26-year-old was deploying early on have learned a harsh lesson lately, as his stats have normalized: that 4.73 ERA and 1.27 WHIP are pretty appropriate for a pitcher with stuff as marginal as Wilson's.
Wilson (2-4) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts in a loss against Boston on Monday.
Wilson threw a quality start, but he wasn't able to match Steven Wright's effectiveness, and he took the loss even though his performance was pretty solid. The 26-year-old righty has a 3.83 ERA, and he has been very consistent to the point he's allowed three runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts. His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Yankees at home.
