Ichiro Suzuki gets starting nod for Marlins on Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Veteran Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is set to get his fourth start in the last six games Friday night against the host Mets.

Suzuki, who will bat sixth against Bartolo Colon, tripled and scored in a pinch-hitting role on Thursday, but has just four hits in 17 at-bats on the year.

Marlins scratch Marcell Ozuna, Ichiro Suzuki to start Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Marlins have scratched outfielder Marcell Ozuna for showing up to the ballpark late and will start outfielder Ichiro Suzuki in Sunday's game against the Rays, the Miami Herald reports.

Ichiro has appeared in all five games for the Marlins this season, going 0 for 4 in his first four appearances before drawing a walk Saturday and getting caught stealing. Ozuna is 5 for 19 but has yet to pick up an extra-base hit.

Ichiro Suzuki blending in with Marlins' young outfield core
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Marlins third base/outfield coach Brett Butler told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN that Ichiro Suzuki seems to be blending nicely with the club's young outfielders this spring. Although Suzuki is projected to be the fourth outfielder and fill in at all three outfield positions, Butler sees the veteran Japanese star as just one of four outfielders.

"People talk about him being the fourth outfielder," Butler said. "He's one of four outfielders, and he's just as valuable as the rest."

Suzuki signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Marlins in the offseason. He is hitting .257 (9 for 35) with three RBI, three walks and two runs in 13 Grapefruit League games with the Marlins.

Ichiro getting playing time at all three outfield positions
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki drew the start in left field Friday against the Cardinals. It is significant because Suzuki has now started at all three outfield spots and DH this spring.

“He’s going to have to be able to do that and he knows that,” manager Mike Redmond said of Suzuki's versatility, per The Palm Beach Post. “That’s the beauty of Ichiro, he can do all those things. He can play all those positions. We talk about ways of getting him in the lineup during the season and that’s how it’s going to be, maybe a day off for (Christian) Yelich, a day off for (Marcell) Ozuna, a day off for (Giancarlo) Stanton at some point maybe. I want to make sure we’re comfortable with him playing all those positions. This is a great time to do it.

“When you start filling out those bench spots you want guys to do and cover as much as you possibly can and I got to feel comfortable (we can) throw those guys out at any position.”

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

The Marlins announced Tuesday they signed outfielder Ichiro Suzuki to a one-year contract.

The deal was expected to be announced once Suzuki passed his physical. He is expected to be the Marlins fourth outfielder as well as a left-handed bat off the bench.
