Padres' Carlos Quentin adjusting to 1B
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Longtime outfielder Carlos Quentin is playing first base for the first time in his career with the Padres and adjusting to the focus and speed the position demands, per MLB.com.

Quentin has played 1,243 games, but none in the regular season at first. He's just played once at first this spring, but he hopes adding that position to his repertoire will give the Padres more options.

"The game is very fast in the infield, obviously," Quentin said. "The game speeds up, and it's a little bit more mentally draining."

Padres' Carlos Quentin willing to waive no-trade clause for AL team
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Although the Padres have decided to work outfielder Carlos Quentin at first base this spring to potentially find another way to get his bat into the lineup, Quentin said Tuesday he would be willing to waive his no-trade for an AL team, per U-T San Diego.

"There will be a lot of eyes seeing how well I'm doing, and I'll be open to the opportunity to be moved, if that comes about in spring training," Quentin said. "My main goal is to have a successful year and be in a position to be successful. I feel good now. You can't count on your health throughout a long season, and everyone knows the AL has the DH that would allow me to get at-bats without putting the wear and tear on my body. That's the realistic part of it, and I'm well aware of it."

The oft-injured Quentin has never played more than 131 games in a season and has played less than 100 games in each of his three seasons with San Diego. He was a two-time All-Star (2008, 2011) when he played in the AL with the White Sox.

Quentin is in the final guaranteed year of his contract. He has a $10 million mutual option for 2016, which includes a $3 million buyout. However, he must have played 320 games from 2013-15 for the buyout to go into effect, per Baseball-Reference.com.

Padres plan to work Carlos Quentin at 1B this spring
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Although he has played exclusively in the outfield throughout his entire professional baseball career, the Padres plan to work Carlos Quentin at first base this spring, general manager A.J. Preller confirmed to reporters on Tuesday, per U-T San Diego.

"There will be a lot of eyes seeing how well I’m doing," Quentin said, per MLB.com. "I’ll be open to the opportunity to being moved in spring training."

Quentin has never played more than 131 games in his nine-year career due to various injuries, including multiple knee surgeries. He hit .177 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 50 games in 2014.

Padres OF Carlos Quentin would waive no-trade clause for AL team
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin is open to waiving his no-trade clause for a trade to an AL team since spacious PETCO Park is not good for his knees, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The move to the AL would also allow Quentin to DH.

Quentin has missed plenty of time the last few seasons due to knee issues. He has also had multiple knee surgeries. The oft-injured outfielder has never played more than 131 games in his nine-year career.

Quentin hit .177 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 50 games in 2014. He has a career .252/.347/.484/.831 slash line. He was a two-time All-Star (2008, 2011) when he played in the AL for the White Sox.
