Ausmus: Rajai Davis will face lefties, Anthony Gose will face RHPs
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Tigers outfielder Rajai Davis is slated to face the vast majority of shouthpaws and outfielder Anthony Gose will face the majority of right-handed pitchers to start the season, manager Brad Ausmus told reporters, per the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday.

"Raj is going to see probably the vast majority of the lefties," Ausmus said, per MLB.com. "Anthony's going to see the majority of the righties. And there's going to be times where Raj, whether it's a matchup situation or he just needs to play because we haven't seen a lefty, is also going to face righties. You probably could say the same thing about the catchers."

Davis slashed .304/.358/.446 with 15 homers and 87 RBI over 951 career at-bats against left-handed pitchers. Gose is a career .241 hitter with five home runs and 32 at-bats against right-handed hitters. He is hitting leadoff against the Twins on Wednesday.

Tigers' Ausmus chooses Davis over Gose for opener due to matchup
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Tigers outfielder Rajai Davis drew the start in center field for Monday's season opener against the Twins over outfielder Anthony Gose. Manager Brad Ausmus said it was because of Twins starting pitcher Phil Hughes' reverse splits, per MLive.com.

Davis is batting .269 (7 for 29) with four doubles and four RBI in his career against Hughes.

"Rajai had a nice year for us, so part of me was glad it was reverse splits," Ausmus said, per the Detroit Free Press. "It gave me an excuse to play Raj on Opening Day."

Davis is expected to share playing time in center field with Gose this season.

"I'm not worried about that," Davis said. "The bottom line is, the best team is going to go out there on the field. I'm confident that our manager is going to put the best team out there and whatever that is, I guess we'll have to wait and see."
