Rays starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez was pulled after pitching to one batter in the third inning of Saturday's game against the Orioles. He finished the day after allowing five earned runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking none, but didn't receive the loss after his team rallied in the ninth inning.

It was the shortest outing of the season for Hernandez, who pitched at least six innings in six of his first seven starts. His next turn in the rotation comes Friday against the Yankees.

Hernandez had a 1-0 lead before the Padres tied the game in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth on a solo home by from Alexi Amarista. Hernandez has allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of his last four starts.

Hernandez is expected to start Saturday at Baltimore. He is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA in two starts against Baltimore this season.

Rays starter Roberto Hernandez, who had his last start wiped out by inclement weather, finished a strong outing Tuesday at home against Toronto. Unfortunately, the Rays' bullpen couldn't hold another lead.

Hernandez needed 103 pitches to allow just one earned run on five hits and a walk over six solid innings, but he settled for a no-decision despite leaving the game with a 4-1 lead. He struck out seven and his only mistake was allowing a solo homer to Adam Lind in the second. His ERA is at 4.66.

The 32-year-old had arguably his best outing with the Rays, as his record stands at 1-4. He's walked just one batter over his last two starts after allowing 10 free passes in his first four outings. Hernandez is slowly pitching better and he'll hope that continues when he next takes the mound Sunday against San Diego.
