Dodgers' Scott Baker allows 3 runs in loss to Padres
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Dodgers pitcher Scott Baker allowed three earned runs in Sunday afternoon's 3-1 loss to the Padres.

Baker pitched seven innings and gave up a run each in the third, fourth and seventh innings. Two of those runs came on solo home runs. He allowed four hits and walked two batters. Baker did strike out six in the game.

"I thought he was good," said manager Don Mattingly. "He gave us a chance to win, which is what we ask of all of our starters. Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and you can ride it. We'll see how it goes."

This was a spot start situation for Baker in his first major-league appearance in 2015.

Dodgers place Yasiel Puig, Joel Peralta on disabled list
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Dodgers placed right fielder Yasiel Puig and pitcher Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Puig reinjured his hamstring Friday, leading manager Don Mattingly to say Saturday that he could possibly hit the disabled list to allow the injury the proper time to rest and heal. Mattlingly said Sunday that the team would "protect" Puig from himself after the outfielder indicated he could play in four or five days.

"It's to the point where we want to get this thing right for the long haul, and in two weeks, [Puig will] be ready to play," Mattingly said. "Yasiel is disappointed. He thinks he'll be ready in four to five days. That's the tough part. We've seen that Yasiel plays at one speed. There's no real putting a governor on him. It's tough for him to say, 'Back off.' We'll protect him from himself."

Peralta was also considered a candidate for the disabled list as he has been dealing with a case of dead arm and has no strength in his shoulder.

"It seems to be lingering, and we want to get rid of it," Mattingly said of Peralta's issue. "We want to eliminate it and move forward. Same with Yasiel. We've messed around enough to say, 'We don't want to play around, play short out of the bullpen and off the bench.'"

With two spots opening on the active roster, the Dodgers purchased the contract of pitcher Scott Baker, who's scheduled to start Sunday's game, while recalling pitcher Carlos Frias from Triple-A Oklahoma City. In order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Baker, the Dodgers transferred Brandon League to the 60-day disabled list.

Report: Scott Baker set to start with Dodgers on Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The Dodgers will promote veteran right-hander Scott Baker from Triple-A Oklahoma City for a spot start Sunday at San Diego, team sources have told the Orange County Register.

Baker, a one-time standout with Minnesota before injuries halted his career, is off to a strong start this year with a 1.06 ERA and just 10 hits allowed in 17 innings. He came within one pitch of a perfect game Monday and finished with a two-hit shutout.

Dodgers P Scott Baker could start against Mariners on Tuesday
by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com

Dodgers pitcher Scott Baker, recently acquired after being released by the Yankees, could be auditioning to start for the team on Tuesday against the Mariners, according to MLB.com. Baker was called upon to start for the Dodgers' Triple-A Oklahoma team on Thursday.

"No matter who ends up starting, it'll be a load on the bullpen that day," manager Don Mattingly said, regarding the starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
