Ryan Hanigan snaps 0-for-15 slump for Red Sox
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan snapped a hitless stretch of 15 at bats by going one for four on Tuesday.

Hanigan had a hit on Opening Day, and nothing since. Tuesday's hit lifted his average to .105, but, despite not hitting, Hanigan has walked seven times and has a .364 on base percentage with four runs scored.

Hanigan also hit a ground ball that ended up plating the go-ahead run on a pair of Washington errors.

Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan says he's ready for everyday role
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan said Friday he is ready for an everyday role now that catcher Christian Vazquez is out for the season due to Tommy John surgery, per WEEI.com.

“It’s too bad what happened to [Vazquez]. To tell you the truth, I was looking forward to playing with him this year,” Hanigan said. “He was ready and he was working hard, and the tandem we would have had I think would have been real solid. It’s too bad, but I’ve got to step up and get myself ready to play every day. Embrace that opportunity. … I’ll be ready.”

Christian Vazquez (elbow) on MRI: They 'found something' there
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez underwent an MRI on his injured elbow, and told reporters on Saturday that they "found something," but have to make a firm diagnosis. He's scheduled to undergo a second opinion in the Fort Myers area, according to WEEI.

Vazquez caught a minor-league game on Friday, but was prohibited from throwing to bases. Manager John Farrell said he's unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, per the Providence Journal. The Red Sox will likely consider Ryan Hanigan and prospect Blake Swihart as possible replacements for Vazquez.

"There's a little bit there, but I've got more in my tank," Vazquez said. "I want to be 100 percent to help the team. I need to be ready to help the team win.

"That's my goal, be ready and healthy because this is my first time getting hurt. I'm a little bit sad with myself for my first time, but I'm fine."
