Ryan Hanigan clubs first home run Friday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan clubbed his first home run of the season Friday against the Rangers.

Hanigan had a tough time early, striking out in his first two at-bats against Joe Saunders. Once Saunders left the game, Hanigan's bat came alive. In his first at-bat against reliever Daniel McCutchen, Hanigan took a first pitch fastball out to left for a three-run shot. The following inning, he hit a single off McCutchen.

Hanigan finished the game 2 for 5, with 1 run and 3 RBI.

Ryan Hanigan to start at least 50 percent of Rays games
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Joe Maddon has announced that Ryan Hanigan will catch more than half of the Rays games in 2014, but has yet to express that he will be matched up against any particular pitchers, per the Tampa Bay Times.

Hanigan, who was dealt from Cincinnati to Tampa in early December, will likely need to rebound from a miserable year at the plate in 2013 to maintain his starting job. His batting average dropped from .274 in 2012 to .198. His slugging percentage has fallen every year since 2010, when it peaked at .429.
