Throughout LeBron James' storied career there have always been incredible teams, players, and franchises he had to work his way past. The mid 2000s Pistons, the Kevin Garnett Celtics, the Tim Duncan Spurs, and now the superteam Warriors have all stood in his way. Every time James managed to find a way to eventually come out on top. He even stole a title off of last season's 73-win Golden State team.

With James defeating so many great teams it almost feels like this is what his true role in the NBA has been all along. Well, if you ask James, he agrees with that sentiment.

"Well, I think it's just part of my calling to just go against teams in the midst of a dynasty. This has been the best team in our league the last three years. They won a championship, and last year it was the greatest regular-season team we had played, probably one of the best postseason teams that everybody's ever seen as well, but we were just able to overcome that. And they're playing like one of the best teams once again. So like I said, there have been times throughout my career where I just played teams that were just in the midst of something that can last for a long time. And obviously this team is built to be able to do that with the talent that they have."

Compare James' career trajectory to what a player like Kevin Durant has gone through. Durant's career has been entirely spent on chasing James after their meeting in 2012, but he was never able to get his rematch. Whether it was due to injuries, roster talent, or another dynasty being formed right in the same conference as him. Now he has his chance.

Durant wants his first title and is very close to forming a new dynasty, but James -- the dynasty killer -- stands in the way. If Durant and the Warriors are going to achieve their goals then they're going to have to overcome one of the greatest players ever to do it. Even if they beat James this season there's still the possibility of running into James the following year, or even the year after that. For James, there is no dynasty he doesn't believe he can defeat.
