Stephen Curry believes that Ray Allen is the 'greatest shooter ever'
Curry, for what it's worth, is almost 600 threes ahead of Allen's career pace
After flirting with a comeback for the last couple of seasons, Ray Allen officially retired from the NBA on Tuesday. Allen was an electrifying scorer in his prime and evolved into the deadliest 3-point shooter of all-time; his 2,973 made threes are the most in NBA history.
Allen's record is in danger, though. Stephen Curry, if he keeps up anything close to his current pace, will likely surpass Allen in the next several years. But while Curry is chasing after Allen, the Warriors superstar holds the 10-time All-Star in high regard. For Curry, Allen is the "best shooter" of all-time.
From ESPN's Chris Haynes:
"To me, he's the greatest shooter ever because of his longevity," Curry told ESPN of the future Hall of Famer's career. "He did it year-to-year and he got up on his shot. That's what made him different. He was a special player."
Curry will likely earn the "greatest shooter ever" descriptor very soon, if he hasn't already. He has set numerous three-point records, none more impressive than the 402 he made last season, and he's also making threes at a considerably faster rate than Allen did in his 18-year career. In his eighth season, Curry has made 1,610 threes while at the same point in Allen's career, he had made 1,051 three-pointers.
And Curry missed basically an entire season to injury.
Still, it is hard to argue with Curry here. For the time being, Allen is the greatest shooter of all-time, although Curry is hot on his heels.
