With Steve Kerr sidelined for the majority of the postseason as he deals with health issues, assistant coach Mike Brown has made the most of his opportunity as the Warriors acting head coach. Golden State is a perfect 12-0 in the playoffs on its way back to the NBA Finals, facing the Cleveland Cavaliers for a third straight season. This has Brown contemplating a return to the bench as a head coach eventually -- minus the interim tag.

"Eventually," Brown told the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday about whether he'd like to be a head coach again. "I think almost everybody that coaches in this league, at some point, whether they've done it or not, wants the opportunity again. But it's not something I'm necessarily thinking about. If it happens, it happens. I feel like one of my attributes is being patient. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, I'm enjoying it here."

On two separate occasions, from 2005-2010 and 2014-2015, Brown was the head coach in Cleveland. He led the Cavs to the Finals in 2007, where they were swept by the Spurs. He would be fired in 2010 only to be rehired for an abbreviated stint in 2014. In Brown's lone season as an assistant with the Warriors, he has been given a golden opportunity in coaching alongside Kerr, who won NBA Coach of the Year honors in 2016. With Kerr unable to coach, Brown has taken over and thrived with a perfect record this postseason.

Brown is no slouch calling the shots -- he won the 2009 Coach of the Year award, after all -- but given the opportunity to step up and coach again, he responded with a definite "Yes" about whether he'd decline other gigs to stay on Kerr's staff in the Bay.

It seems he's in no hurry to leave, but given his success coaching the Warriors and his track record, he likely won't lack for opportunities down the road.
