Melo on J.R. Smith's transition to Cavs: 'He looks comfortable out there'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

It's not hard to see Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith has played a tad better since his acquisition from the Knicks.

After averaging 10.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 24 games for the Knicks, Smith is averaging 14.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in eight games with the Cavs. He is also making 2.8 3-pointers per game, as opposed to 1.3 per game with New York.

One person who has noticed Smith's uptick in production has been former teammate Carmelo Anthony.

“He’s playing well,” Anthony said Wednesday morning, per ESPN. “I know what type of game he has and what he can do, so he looks comfortable out there, he looks like he’s settling in very well. I’m actually happy for him.

"It’s a change of environment for him, new thought process, new mind set. Mentally he looks like he has some clarity right now. I believe LeBron [James] will help him make that adjustment that much better.”

Cavaliers SG J.R. Smith scores season-high 29 vs. Suns
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Cavaliers shooting guard J.R. Smith scored a season-high 29 points on 10 of 19 shooting, including 8 of 14 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 107-100 loss to the Suns Tuesday.

Smith scored just four points while dealing with an arm injury Sunday but caught fire one game later, delivering a shooting performance of better than 50 percent for the first time since Dec. 7. He chipped in four steals, two assists and one rebound before fouling out. Smith will square off with the Lakers Thursday.

Mike Miller will come off the Cavs' bench with Smith starting. Smith, who scored 27 points in 42 minutes Friday but managed only four points in 31 minutes Sunday, didn't expect to miss time due to his arm injury.

Cleveland is a 4 1/2-point underdog in Phoenix Tuesday.

Cavs guard J.R. Smith doesn't feel he will miss time with arm injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith was icing his right elbow following Sunday's 103-84 loss against the Kings, according to Cleveland.com. Smith said he felt like he hyperextended his arm on a drive to the basket in the fourth quarter, but he said no tests were needed and doesn't feel he will miss time due to the injury.

"It affected my shooting in the fourth," Smith said. "I couldn't get a full follow through. I'm in a little pain, but it's nothing too serious. I'll be OK."

Smith had just four points on 2 of 10 shooting Sunday. He added five rebounds in 31 minutes. He is averaging 10.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in three games since his acquisition from New York.

J.R. Smith activated by Cavs, but Iman Shumpert still out due to injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Cavaliers announced newly acquired guard J.R. Smith has been activated and will be available for Wednesday's game against the Rockets.

However, guard Iman Shumpert -- who was also acquired in a three-team trade with the Knicks and Thunder -- remains out after suffering a dislocated left shoulder Dec. 12. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
