Dallas sports fans are passionate people. They love their Texas teams through and through: Dallas Cowboys fans are largely Dallas Mavericks fans and are also largely Dallas Stars fans.

The NFL season isn't going on and the Mavs are eliminated but the same fanbase is hanging out, being crazy for their hockey team, cheering on the Stars.

New Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott learned this the hard way Wednesday night when, as noted by the Dallas Morning News, he decided to let the world know he was cheering for the St. Louis Blues, who ended up thumping the Stars in a Game 7.

Hey, that's cool. Elliott's a hockey fan and surely Cowboys fans will take really well to this news ... OH GOD NO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, ZEKE???

Naturally we got a little #YOUR involved in the process. This is the Internet after all.

And of course some people took it WAY too far:

"How dare you root for a non-Dallas hockey team that I love as a Dallas sports fan! I hope you get injured future Dallas sports star!" People are just so nice on social media sometimes.

Ezekiel Elliott is cheering for his St. Louis Blues in the NHL playoffs. USATSI

No one bothered to ask Elliott WHY he was rooting for the Blues. Probably should have though.

Sigh. Not to mention Elliott basically grew up in St. Louis (he played high school ball in a suburb near there).

Elliott better hope he's as good as advertised. Because he's already figured out what the reaction will be if he struggles.
