Josh Norman fined nearly $50,000 for vicious hit during Giants game
The Redskins corner is probably going to want to get out his checkbook
It's a good thing that Josh Norman signed a $75 million contract this past offseason because he's going to need some of that money to pay off the huge fine that was handed down to him by the NFL on Friday.
A league spokesman told NFL.com that Norman was fined a total of $48,620 for making an illegal hit during the Redskins' 29-27 win over the Giants in Week 3.
Surprisingly, the hit didn't come on Odell Beckham Jr. It came on Giants receiver Sterling Shepard.
On the Giants' first offensive play of the fourth quarter, Shepard caught a 12-yard pass over the middle and then got laid out by Norman (you can see the entire play here).

Ouch.
Norman was immediately flagged on the play and hit with a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. The play turned out to be a huge one for the Giants because not only did they get the 15-yard penalty, but Shepard actually held on to the ball for a 12-yard gain, which gave New York a total of 27 yards on the play.
After making the hit, Norman had some words with Shepard.

One play Norman didn't get fined for came in the first half when he literally picked up Beckham and carried him out of the end zone.

Although the rivalry between Beckham and Norman was expected to get kind of crazy, that never really happened. Before the game, the officiating crew warned both players to stay out of trouble.
As for Norman's fine, the reason it was so big is because the Redskins cornerback is a repeat offender. Back in December, Norman was fined more than $25,000 for two infractions that he committed against the Giants while he was playing for the Panthers.
