NFL, NFLPA continue probes into Week 1 concussion protocol for Cam Newton

The two sides have yet to schedule a date to share their findings

The investigations being conducted by the NFL and NFLPA into whether the concussion protocol was applied correctly to Cam Newton in Week 1 are ongoing, according to league and union sources, and the sides have not set any date to coordinate sharing their findings.

The case, which arose from a series of blows to the head suffered by the Panthers quarterback in the opening game of the season, is the first of its kind under the new arrangement between the NFL and NFLPA.

Both sides continue to gather information -- Panthers coach Ron Rivera offered late this week that he had not yet been interviewed, for instance -- and the NFLPA at some point will reach out to the league once it has concluded its review and reached any findings. If the NFL and NFLPA do not agree on what took place and whether it warrants any discipline for failing to comply with the in-game protocol, then the finding would be turned over to a neutral arbitrator to determine if the policy was breached and what any corresponding penalties should be.
