Patriots' Martellus Bennett burns Roger Goodell for a strange and hilarious reason
It has to do with chips
Martellus Bennett, one of the league's best tight ends, is also one of the league's best quote machines.
He compares his quarterbacks to Jesus and then rips them for not throwing him the ball enough. He compares his ex-quarterbacks to ex-girlfriends. He compares himself to comic book characters. You get the point. So, the following quote shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.
When Bennett was asked if the return of Tom Brady put an extra chip on his shoulder, he started talking about actual chips and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. In the process, Bennett burned Goodell for a pretty odd reason.
Martellus Bennett, asked if Tom Brady ban put extra chip on shoulder: "Goodell looks like a Pringle guy. I don't consider those chips." 🤔

Martellus Bennett says every Patriots player plays with a chip on his shoulder: "Some are barbecue, some sour cream and onion."

Bennett has a point -- Pringles are not chips. But that's a story for another day (and another publication).
Remember when the Patriots traded for Bennett and we all were like, "Uh-oh, how will the typically outspoken Bennett fit within a Patriots organization that doesn't want its players to open up?" It turns out, Bennett fits perfectly. Instead of dodging questions like Bill Belichick by saying "We're onto Cleveland," he dodges questions by just being his normal, weird self.
And, oh yeah, he's been a pretty damn good investment on the field, as well. Through four games, Bennett leads the team in receiving yards with 247. He's also Pro Football Focus' highest-graded tight end in run blocking.
In large part due to Bennett, the Patriots survived the absence of Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who's still dealing with a hamstring issue and has been targeted just three times this season. When Gronk finally gets going again, he and Bennett could form the league's most dynamic duo, maybe ever.
