Andrew Quarless (knee) was sentenced to one-year of probation for a July incident in which he discharged a firearm in public, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
With the justice system handing down its decision, the NFL will likely weigh in on the matter in due time, potentially in the form of a suspension. Legal woes aside, he returned to practice Monday, but the Green Bay Packers weren't required to release an official designation, as he remains on the IR/designated-to-return list. If he makes the requisite progress this week, he could suit up Thursday at Detroit for the first time since Week 3.
Quarless hasn't practiced since spraining his MCL during Week 3, but will rejoin his teammates ahead of Thursday's game in Detroit. While the limited time before that game could make Quarless hard-pressed to play, it's at least encouraging that he should be back in action before long.
Andrew Quarless (knee) hasn't been cleared to return to practice, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. "He will not practice today; he won't be activated today," said head coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday. "But maybe this week. That's kind of where we are."
Although Quarless was eligible to return Thursday against the Bears, he hasn't recovered from the sprained MCL suffered in Week 3 and won't take the practice field Sunday. Even if he makes an appearance in drills in advance of this Thursday's game in Detroit, the Green Bay Packers are apt to exercise caution rather than throw the tight end into the fire in Week 13, especially with 10 days before the team's next tilt. In the meantime, Richard Rodgers and Justin Perillo will continue to handle TE reps.
Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless (knee) was placed on the IR/designated-to-return list Wednesday, the Packers' official site reports.
Quarless' sprained MCL was expected to required 4-6 weeks of recovery anyway, so he should be approaching full health when he's eligible to return in eight weeks.
In the interim, Kennard Backman will move into the backup tight-end role, but expect another body to enter the TE ranks in the near future.
Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless (knee) will be out 4-6 weeks weeks with a sprained MCL, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Richard Rodgers has received most of the snaps at tight end, but Quarless has cut into his workload. Potentially looking at an every-down role for a month or more, Rodgers could emerge as a low-end Fantasy option, though he'd likely still be touchdown-dependent.
