Giants new-look offensive line on display in OTA's
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

The Giants have completely remodeled their offensive line unit for the start of organized team activities.

Compared to last year's o-line, only two players are back but even those guys have switched positions and shifted along the line. Justin Pugh has gone from right tackle to left guard and Weston Richburg shifted from left guard to center.

Will Beatty, who was a mainstay at left tackle last season, will miss five to six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Beatty's injury has paved the way for rookie Ereck Flowers to step in at the left tackle position.

Quaterback Eli Manning is still adjusting to all the moving pieces in front of him.

"Obviously, having a new center can be an adjustment," Manning said. "But (Weston) Richburg was here last year and I got snaps with him last year, so that hasn't been a big deal. Anytime you have a rookie at left tackle, it can be an adjustment."

Geoff Schwartz and John Jerry are splitting time at right guard, while Marshall Newhouse has been taking the snaps at right tackle.

Giants' Coughlin says Pugh headed to G before Beatty injury
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

The injury to tackle Will Beatty put the Giants' offensive line in a state of flux, but coach Tom Coughlin said the decision to move tackle Justin Pugh to guard was already made before the injury occurred, per the Daily News

Coughlin labeled Pugh's move as an "experiment," but added the change was made with "full intent" to keep him at the position.

Pugh, the Giants' first-round pick in 2013, played 14 games at right tackle last year.

Flowers' college position coach thinks he can fill in for injured Beatty
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Things are moving really fast for Giants offensive lineman Ereck Flowers. The eighth overall pick in the draft, because of an injury to Will Beatty, might have inherited a huge workload this season, per nj.com.

Art Kehoe, Flowers' offensive line coach at the University of Miami, thinks Flowers will be up to the task of protecting quarterback Eli Manning.

"I'm sure he raised his level up a notch or two, but I think he plays every week, I think he plays hard in practice," Kehoe said. "He's an unproven commodity at the next level, and he's a high draft pick, [the Giants] drafted him to be a fixer, so I'm sure he's going in there to do what he did in Miami — scrap his ass off every day in practice, and if you're supposed to be a badass the next weekend [against] your opponent, he's gonna be there and he's gonna bring everything he's got. That's what he does. He wants to know that there's a dude, and he has to take care of him, and he'll be up to the challenge.

Giants' 2013 first-round pick, Justin Pugh is also a top candidate to fill in for the injured Beatty.

Giants LT Will Beatty injures pectoral while lifting weights
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

The Giants offensive line suffered a big blow when left tackle Will Beatty apparently injured his pectoral muscle while lifting weights, per Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo.

According to the report, Beatty was being evaluated Wednesday, and per ESPN sources, Beatty's pec was torn, which would require a surgery that will keep him out of action for 5-to-6 months.

In Beatty's absence from the lineup, the Giants have a couple of candidates in Justin Pugh and first-round draft pick Ereck Flowers to fill the void.

Giants say Justin Pugh will stay at RT, Ereck Flowers to LT
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

The Giants drafted Miami tackle Ereck Flowers in the first round, leading to speculation that he would take over from Justin Pugh at right tackle, with Pugh moving inside to guard.

On Saturday, offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo denied that Pugh would be moving. "As of right now, Justin Pugh is the starting right tackle on the New York Giants," McAdoo said, per the Daily News.

The plan for Flowers, the ninth overall pick, is a move to the other side. "We believe that he has the skill set to play left tackle," McAdoo said.
