Despite his struggles in the playoff loss to New England,
Rogers dropped two passes and went without a catch among four targets against the Patriots. But he was far more productive than expected with Indianapolis, which signed him after he was waived by Buffalo in August. Rogers caught 14 passes for 192 yards, peaking with a 107-yard, two-score performance against Tennessee.
"I believe I showed the Colts that they can trust me, that I can come to work and be professional every day," he told ESPN.
Griff Whalen made a few big plays to stretch the field for Indianapolis and finished the game with 67 yards on five catches.
Rogers had just one catch on two targets, but it went a long way, as he went for 46 yards before being dragged down.
The Colts were forced to pass a ton, and had to dig deep on the depth chart for contributors. The next game will be either against the Broncos or Patriots.
It could have been more had Rogers ran a precise route in the first quarter. He was targeted on a pass near the end zone that should have been picked off by Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers had he held on to the football.
It's not to say Rogers had a bad game, showing some athleticism on a couple of other catches, but he's got some ways to go to become a solid, polished NFL receiver. He'll keep working at it on Week 17 vs. the Jaguars.
After being one of the top pickups off waivers last week following a breakout performance Week 14,
Wide receivers are averaging 184.8 receiving yards and 23 Fantasy points per week against the Chiefs. Wide receivers have totaled 13 touchdowns in 14 games, with just one receiver -- Eric Decker -- recording multiple touchdowns.
The reason for a decline in Rogers' numbers last week had a lot to do with the Colts getting a huge lead against the Texans and not having to throw the football as much. The previous week, they were in a shootout with the Bengals, which could be the case again Week 16 against the Chiefs.
It's definitely a gamble to start Rogers in such a big week for Fantasy owners since he doesn't have a strong track record. But if you want to roll the dice, Rogers could be an upside play. The Chiefs will probably focus on stopping T.Y. Hilton, which could open up some opportunities in the passing game for Rogers.
