Carey totaled 48 yards on 10 carries and hauled in his only reception for nine yards in Thursday's 26-10 loss to the Packers.
Carey surprisingly received three more carries than rookie Jordan Howard, who'd been stellar during two of the last three weeks. However, it was the third-year back who found much easier sledding on the ground Thursday, while Jordan was held to just over three yards per tote. With the Bears now 1-6 and searching for answers, head coach John Fox may opt to go with the hot hand, and with 98 yards on 19 carries the last two weeks, that designation could rightfully be bestowed upon Carey for the time being.
Carey (hamstring) is active for Thursday's game in Green Bay, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
With Jeremy Langford (ankle) again sidelined, Jordan Howard will receive most of the backfield reps in Week 7. Even if Carey is afforded some touches, though, he may not have much room to operate against the Packers' No. 2 ranked run defense.
Carey (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game at Green Bay, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Carey's hamstring injury stems from Week 2, which forced two DNPs and has lingered into the past three weeks of prep. Receiving a questionable designation has been the norm in advance of the past two games, and he even made inroads Sunday versus the Jaguars, grabbing nine carries for 50 yards. Expect him to serve in a complementary role to starter Jordan Howard yet again.
NFL rules require teams that play on Thursday to release an injury report on the preceding Monday, but the Bears did not hold practice and instead released a projected injury report based off coach opinion. Consequently, it appears Carey would have continued to participate in the same limited capacity he had all of last week. He ultimately wound up suiting up Sunday against the Jaguars, but he also wasn't playing on a short week. Thus, it's not clear if Carey will be ready by Thursday night, but an actual injury report (to be released after the Bears' practice on Tuesday) will help illuminate the situation.
Carey rushed nine time for 50 yards Sunday against the Jaguars.
After seeing just two touches in his return from a hamstring injury in Week 5, Carey was a much bigger part of the game plan against the Jaguars. Although he was on the field for 25 snaps, which was 30 fewer than Jordan Howard, he handled six fewer carries than his counterpart while rushing for 16 more yards. However, Howard was targeted four times to only one for Carey, and he failed to haul in that lone chance. Based on this week's performance, Carey appears to have a role in this backfield, and might function as a flex option for fantasy teams, at least until Jeremy Langford returns from his ankle injury.
