Chiefs backups don't do much Week 2
by Chris Cwik |

The Chiefs backup pass catchers couldn't do much Week 2 against the Broncos.

Anthony Fasano was the most impressive of the bunch, hauling in three passes for 39 yards. Junior Hemingway caught 2 passes for 21 yards during the outing. Both A.J. Jenkins and Donnie Avery each caught three balls, but gained 16 and 14 yards respectively.

Tight end Demetrius Harris pulled in one ball for 10 yards. Running back Cyrus Gray didn't have any catches, but carried the ball twice for 8 yards.

They'll take on the Dolphins Week 3.

Donnie Avery nets 13 targets in Week 1 loss
by Michael Hurcomb |

With Dwayne Bowe sidelined Week 1 due to a suspension, Chiefs veteran Donnie Avery was quarterback Alex Smith's go-to receiver during a 26-10 loss against the Titans.

Avery finished with seven catches for 84 yards, which were both team highs. He was also targeted a team-high 13 times and his longest catch went 25 yards. Avery did most of his damage in the second half, as he had just two catches for 21 yards in the first half.

The Chiefs are back in action Week 2 at Denver. Bowe is expected to return from his suspension next week.

Donnie Avery could be Chiefs' top WR Week 1
by Michael Hurcomb |

As Dwayne Bowe sits out Week 1 against the Titans due to a suspension, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith will need someone to step up in the passing game. One option that could emerge is veteran receiver Donnie Avery, who totaled 40 catches for 596 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with Kansas City in 2013.

Avery had one of his better performances in 2013 against the Titans, totaling 91 yards on three catches. Though, for the most part, wide receivers struggled against Tennessee in 2013. Wide receivers average 126 receiving yards and 14 Fantasy points per week, which was the lowest average in the league. Wide receivers had just six touchdowns in 16 games against Tennessee.

The fact Avery will likely be a top target in the passing game Week 1 with Bowe out makes him a potential sleeper in deeper formats. But there are still plenty of more viable sleepers ahead of Avery, who should be considered more of a desperation start.

Reid: Donnie Avery looks good
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday that receiver Donnie Avery is doing a good job during OTA workouts.

Avery is expected to start opposite Dwayne Bowe this season.

"Donnie looks good," Reid said. "He's running fast, and I remember this time last year he had the high ankle or there was something there, so he really missed all of the OTAs and then he came back and he had the scapula there that he had hurt. He's in good shape right now."

Avery finished 2013 with 40 catches for 596 yards and two touchdowns.

Donnie Avery exits with concussion
by Chris Towers |

Chiefs wide receiver Donnie Avery came up with one big play in the first half of Saturday's Wild Card playoff game against the Colts, but that was all the impact he would have. Avery hauled in a 79-yard touchdown in the second quarter, but was forced to leave the game in the third with concussion symptoms.

Avery was taken to the locker room for concussion evaluation, and was ruled out for the remainder of the game shortly after.
