  • Lightning's Ryan Callahan: Undergoes surgery to repair labral tear

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/21/16) Callahan will miss five months after undergoing surgery to repair a labral tear.

Callahan has been ruled out of the World Cup of Hockey and, given the timeline, is expected to miss the first month of the 2016-17 season. The 31-year-old's absence will be a significant blow for the US team, although fellow American, and postseason hero, Phil Kessel should be available to slot in as a replacement. Despite a drop off in production during 2015-16, fantasy owners shouldn't be too concerned about the winger missing the open month of the year as he continues to have solid value in most formats.

Lightning's Ryan Callahan: Opens scoring in Game 4

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/21/16) Callahan found the back of the Penguins' net 27 seconds into Friday's Game 4 win.

Victor Hedman rifled a shot from the point and Callahan altered the puck's trajectory to open the scoring. From a fantasy perspective, Callahan was one of the league's biggest busts this season. Here's a guy who pitched in 54 points with Tampa in 2014-15, but only managed 10 goals and 18 assists in the most recent regular season. The Bolts might forgive him if he ends up catching fire in the playoffs, but we wouldn't count on that happening as he has just four points in 13 games this postseason. Callahan holds the most value in leagues that count hits -- he's picked up 54 of those in the playoffs.

Lightning's Ryan Callahan: Returning for Game 3

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/18/16) Callahan (illness) will rejoin the lineup for Wednesday's Game 3 against the Penguins, Bryan Burns of NHL.com reports.

Callahan will end up missing just one game because of the illness, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The veteran winger will likely slot back in alongside Cedric Paquette and Brian Boyle and should once again play on the man advantage. Unless the illness surfaces again for some reason, it's unlikely the issue should have any lingering effects.

Lightning's Ryan Callahan: Out for Game 2 on Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/16/16) Callahan is not on the ice for warmups and is out for Game 2 against the Penguins.

Callahan's absence for Monday's game comes as a shocker to many. The 31-year-old is reportedly out with a lower body injury, although no specifics have yet to be released. With Callahan out, look for J.T. Brown and Jonathan Marchessault to see more time on the ice in Game 2.

Lightning's Ryan Callahan: Won't be disciplined further for ugly hit

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/14/16) Callahan will not face supplementary discipline from the NHL for his hitting Kris Letang from behind in Friday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Early in the first period, Callahan chased down Letang at high speed and appeared to lead into the hit with his forearm, causing Letang to leave the game. Callahan was hit with a five-minute major for boarding, though he avoided an ejection from the eventual 3-1 win. Letang would ultimately return to the game, which seems to have helped Callahan avoid further discipline from the league.

March 24, 2015: Callahan's Goal Sends Lightning To Victory
Callahan scored the game-winning goal late in the third period and also had an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Panthers.Cally delivered physical play, too, dishing out five hits against Tampa's cross-state rivals. He's now cleared the 50-point mark for the first time since 2011-12 with the Rangers, and he could quite reasonably surpass that season's career-high 54 points before all's said and done.
