2017 Gold Cup odds: Mexico the favorite to win, USA is right behind them
A complete look at the Gold Cup winner odds for the 2017 edition
The Gold Cup odds are out, and Mexico is at the top. According to Bovada, El Tri is the favorite to repeat as champs, while host USA comes in right behind, with Costa Rica with the third-best odds. USA's opening opponent, Panama, is fourth.
The Gold Cup kicks off Friday night. Here are all of the odds:
CONCACAF Gold Cup Outright Winner
Mexico 6/5
USA 7/5
Costa Rica 7/1
Panama 16/1
Honduras 20/1
Jamaica 33/1
Canada 33/1
Curaçao 50/1
El Salvador 50/1
Nicaragua 125/1
French Guyana 150/1
Martinique 200/1
I was a little surprised to see Panama fourth, thinking Jamaica and Honduras' odds would be a bit better. But it does make sense considering Panama has done well in World Cup qualifying and has done very well in the cup. Many might forget that it made the semifinals in 2011, the final in 2013 and finished third place in 2015, beating the United States.
But what about Curacao having better odds than El Salvador and Nicaragua? That surely has more to do with how bad the Central Americans have been, rather than how good Curacao is.
As for Martinique, it's just glad to be there.
