FIFA will investigate the world-record transfer of midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United, according to AFP. The French midfielder joined United last summer for $111 million, shattering the transfer record Real Madrid set by acquiring Gareth Bale in 2013.

Citing sources at FIFA, the report says what they will investigate is not clear, just that they confirmed the investigation. However, European tabloids are suggesting it involves the role of Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, during the world-record signing. Manchester United officials are reportedly confident there is no wrongdoing on their end of the deal, according to a report from ESPNFC.

Here's more from that report:

A United spokesperson said that the club "do not comment on individual contracts," but added that, "FIFA have had the documents since the transfer was concluded in August."

Sources also told ESPN FC that United are confident everything will be found to be in order.

Pogba began his career with United before leaving for Juventus on a free transfer, where he then became a world superstar. He rejoined the club over the summer and has helped the Red Devils reach the semifinals of the Europa League where the club has a small advantage over Celta Vigo though one leg. If United manages to win the Europa League, we could see Pogba and the Red Devils back in the Champions League next season -- that is, if nothing comes about from this Pogba investigation.

More to come as this story develops.
