Mexico 2-1 Russia: El Tri overcome deficit, oust hosts with strong performance
El Tri continues in the competition, while Russia is out
It was a massive, tricky challenge. Mexico, needing to avoid defeat to continue in the Confederations Cup and having to do so against hungry host Russia, is still alive. Mexico came from behind to beat Russia 2-1 with a strong performance to move on to the semifinals.
Hirving Lozano scored a slick header to win it early in the second half, as El Tri held on. Here's how it went down.
Russia was strong early and found the breakthrough on 25 minutes through this strike from Alekzandr Samedov:

Mexico was able to respond just five minutes later through a brilliant header from defending Nestor Araujo:

And then Russia's defense was caught sleeping. On a long clearance over the top, Lozano just wanted it more and did this:

That meant Russia needed two goals to move on, and it couldn't get one as Mexico controlled the ball for most of what remained, with Russia missing one golden chance to pull one back.
With the result, Mexico moves on to the semis and will likely face either Germany or Chile on Wednesday.
