Game Recap
Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Georgia Southern Eagles beat the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 30-25 on Saturday.
Georgia Southern took a little while to warm up, but they followed up a slow three-point first quarter with 17 points in the second. The Runnin' Bulldogs countered with 6 points. The Eagles were outperformed in the second half 19-10 but had enough points saved up to walk away with the win.
Georgia Southern's RB Logan Wright was one of the most active players for the team, rushing for one TD and 178 yards on 26 carries. Georgia Southern also got a significant boost from RB Amare Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.
Special teams collected 12 points for Georgia Southern. K Britton Williams delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Despite the defeat, Gardner-Webb had strong showings from QB Bailey Fisher, who passed for three TDs and 315 yards on 46 attempts, and WR T.J. Luther, who caught six passes for one TD and 164 yards. The contest pushed Gardner-Webb down to 0-1 and pulled the Eagles up to the reverse at 1-0.
Georgia Southern will square off against the Florida Atlantic Owls at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at FAU Stadium. Florida Atlantic took a loss in their last game and are no doubt out to reverse Georgia Southern's good fortune. Gardner-Webb will hit the road for the second straight week as they head to Jerry Richardson Stadium at 6 p.m. ET next Saturday.
