  • Jean-Christophe Beaudin: Set for release

Beaudin will hit free agency after the Senators opted against giving him a qualifying offer, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Beaudin failed to break into the NHL this past season, instead spending his entire campaign playing in the minors for AHL Belleville. There, the 24-year-old center garnered six goals and 10 helpers in 34 appearances. Selected by the Avs in the third round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Beaudin may be hard-pressed to earn his way back onto an NHL roster.

The Avalanche traded Beaudin to the Senators on Wednesday in exchange for Max McCormick. Beaudin is in the second year of a three-year, entry-level contract. • Avalanche's Jean-Christophe Beaudin: Signs entry-level deal

Beaudin signed a three-year, two-way, entry-level contract with Colorado on Monday worth $683,000 per year, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. The 19-year-old has been lighting it up this year in the QMJHL, rattling off 74 points and a plus-30 rating in 59 games with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies after an 82-point campaign last season. He was selected in the third round (71st overall) in 2015, but given his performance over the last couple of years in the Q -- as well as the struggles of the Avs as a whole in 2016-17 -- he could be making his way to the big club sooner than originally anticipated.
