Malik Newman has asked for his release from Mississippi State and intends to transfer, sources told CBS Sports on Monday.
He is expected to receive his release on Tuesday, one source said. Newman must sit out next season per NCAA rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
A former five-star recruit, the 6-3 guard averaged 11.3 points last season as a freshman and never got on track after a toe injury forced him to miss the final two weeks of the preseason.
