Grayson Allenâs latest controversial physical incident has nothing to do with tripping.
Allen made a drive to the hoop during the first half of Dukeâs game at North Carolina on Saturday night, and on the way there he popped UNC freshman Brandon Robinson in the jaw.
Hereâs the play.

Allen was assessed a contact technical for the play, as it was deemed not a basketball move. Itâs not the end of the world, but it is the right call.
Hereâs another look. Allen gets his chicken wing out there, then instinctively whips his head back. This move actually isnât uncommon. More and more, basketball players are prone to give themselves whiplash in an effort to draw foul calls.

Here you see Allen making a diving play for the loose ball and starting the break. This aspect has always been a part of his game. In fact, itâs part of why heâs developed this reputation. He plays with abandon, and itâs why so many people hate him. Remove the tripping stuff -- his mere being of âDuke hustle playerâ leads people to dislike him based on his style alone and the name on his jersey.
