The University of Michigan hasn't given out helmet stickers since Lloyd Carr took over in 1995, but stickers are back this season. Wide receiver Amara Darboh confirmed to the media that helmet stickers were back -- Darboh received a team-high nine for his performance Saturday against Utah.

First-year coach Jim Harbaugh, who already brought back all-white road uniforms, has not been shy about wanting to change the culture at Michigan and has referenced Bo Schembechler's influence on many occasions.

The players seem pretty excited about the return of helmet stickers. Star tight end Jake Butt received eight for his performance in the Wolverines' 24-17 loss to the Utes.

"I think it's awesome," Butt said Monday, according to the Detroit News. "I think it's just another way to create an environment of competition. You don't want to be the guy with an empty helmet at the end of the year. Everybody has a chance to win some stickers."

Butt explained the basics of the goal structure that rewards players with stickers.

"You have offensive goals, so if you played a certain number of plays and we met certain offensive goals, you got a sticker for that," Butt said. "There's special teams goals and individual goals -- if you graded out at a certain percentage based on your film you got a sticker."

"They're pretty sweet," Butt said. "I want my helmet to be decked out by the end of the season with them."

As one of the top targets for Michigan, Butt will likely get his wish and finish the season with a helmet covered with stickers.
