Michigan's Jabrill Peppers shoves an Ohio State fan after Buckeyes' wild win
The Wolverines' star player got caught in the frenzy as fans rushed the field
Curtis Samuel's game-winning touchdown set off an eruption of elation in Columbus. Urban Meyer was floored by the conclusion of the game and Ohio State fans flooded the field in the Horseshoe to celebrate one of the most memorable games in the history of the rivalry.
Michigan star Jabrill Peppers got caught in the frenzy and engaged in a brief scuffle with one Ohio State fan. According to this ESPN video, it looks like Peppers is either bumped or grabbed by a fan before retaliating with a push. The New Jersey native was held back by an official and withdrew his aggressive posture after a moment, proceeding to the field exit before the situation escalated.
Peppers may apologize, but he may not. When fans rush the field and seem aggressive, you cannot ask players to avoid defending themselves. Good work by Michigan's staff and the event security in making sure this didn't become an even bigger headline.
Tensions were heated on both sides because the game was easily one of the most tense of the season. The high stakes, close finish and even the winning team mirror the 2006 contest that received so much attention during the days leading up to the game.
"This one they'll talk about for years to come," Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett said in the midst of a throng of Ohio State fans. "This is a great thing for our fans. Buckeye nation, this is what we talk about right here."
After the brief fracas, Peppers was escorted off the field by Jim Harbaugh, who had his own set of frustrations to air when answering questions about the game's officiating.
