Notre Dame's Alize Jones academically ineligible, giving Irish one fewer weapon
Tight end Alize Jones won't play this season, though he'll remain with the team
There had been speculation this offseason that Notre Dame tight end Alize Jones could prove to be an X-factor and a big playmaker for the Irish offense this year. While playing in a limited role as a freshman, Jones was poised to take on a larger role in 2016, especially after wide receiver Corey Robinson decided to walk away from the game.
Well, Jones' ascension is going to have to wait at least another year as Brian Kelly announced Jones will not play for the Irish in 2016. Kelly also said that, while he can't play with the team, Jones will continue to practice with the Irish and remain on the roster.
All of which leads one to speculate that Jones is dealing with an academic issue. Actually, there's no need to speculate as Jones himself confirmed it on Twitter.

"Notre Dame is a special place and playing football for the Irish is a privilege," wrote Jones. "With this responsibility comes academic responsibility, and unfortunately, I didn't meet that responsibility. I love Notre Dame and everything about it. Obviously I'm disappointed at myself, but I'm going to make the best of this situation. I'm going to remain a student at Notre Dame and work even harder. I'm going to grow from this. I'm going to be a better student, teammate, player and man. While I won't be able to help my brothers on Saturdays, I'll do whatever I can to help this team achieve its goal of winning a national championship."
Jones caught 13 passes for 190 yards for the Irish last season.
