The college football offseason is largely filled with terrible news about player arrests, kids not making grades, student-athletes transferring schools or player having to retire because of football-related injuries.

Very rarely do we get a joyous occasion like the one in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday. When we do see moments like these, they are usually because a walk-on received a scholarship. Sweet times, but ultimately not that important to the college football landscape.

This one, on the other hand, is actually important. Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford dialed up the parents of Mike Weber Jr. to alert them that their son is going to be the starter for Ohio State when it plays Bowling Green on Saturday.

"A lot of times, parents get calls on negative stuff," said Alford. "This is a different one. This is a call on something that's great. The history we have had at running back at this place is freakish. Your son has done a great job, and today we're going to name him the starting tailback at Ohio State."

Dad laughs. Mom screams. Amazing. I can't stop smiling about it.

Weber, who was a four-star recruit from Detroit, took a redshirt last year and hasn't had a single carry in his college career.
