Rick Majerus turns down SMU

Rick Majerus is staying at Saint Louis.

SMU athletic director Steve Orsini received permission to talk the 64-year-old Majerus, who took Saint Louis to the third round of the NCAA tournament last month.

However, Majerus has opted to spurn interest from SMU -- which is headed to the Big East -- and remain with the Billikens, sources told CBSSports.

Majerus has won more than 500 career games in stops at Marquette, Ball State, Utah and Saint Louis. He returns everyone except for big man Brian Conklin off this year's Billikens squad, one that went 26-8 overall and 12-4 in the A-10.

Majerus becomes the latest to turn down SMU's advances. The Mustangs, according to sources, had previously gone after Marquette coach and Texas native Buzz Williams, Harvard's Tommy Amaker and Long Beach State's Dan Monson.
