Cubs designate RF Mike Baxter for assignment

The Cubs designated right fielder Mike Baxter for assignment on Wednesday, the team announced.

Baxter was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in mid-July, after hitting just .246 with the Cubs in 57 at-bats earlier in the season.
