Rockies' Christian Friedrich: Designated for assignment

Friedrich was designated for assignment Thursday.

The Rockies acquired pitchers Jake McGee and German Marquez on Thursday, forcing the organization to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Friedrich, a former top prospect in the Rockies organization, made 68 appearances in the majors last season, working a 5.25 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 25 walks over 58.1 innings of work. He'll now be subject to waivers.
