Texans' Tyler Ervin: Shaky debut in preseason opener

Ervin gained one yard on four carries and muffed his first attempted punt return in Houston's preseason opening win over San Francisco.

Ervin, who is the projected primary return man for both punts and kicks, later had a positive 28-yard kickoff return, but definitely looked tentative on that first punt return. Perhaps it was just some rookie jitters in his first game action. The Texans will continue to give opportunities to Ervin, who holds the record at San Jose State with five total returns for touchdowns.
