It was an absolute war in the ring on Saturday night in Las Vegas, but Miesha Tate did what she failed to do twice before -- capture the women's bantamweight championship. Tate locked in a rear-naked choke on defending champion Holly Holm in the fifth round of their title fight, eventually putting Holm to sleep as Tate walked out of the MGM Grand with the belt and earning a technical submission victory.

Tate nearly accomplished this feat in the second round as she got Holm's back and grabbed ahold of her neck. Holm was able to break free and survive. But in the fifth, when Holm tried to break and stand up, Tate locked the submission in tighter, pulling Holm to the ground and leaving her gasping for air.

Holm, who was undefeated in UFC entering the fight, did everything she could but nearly passed out once the chokehold sank in.

"Not many people wouldn't tap out," Tate said after the fight. "She went out like a champion."

Tate will now get her third shot at Rousey, but this time she will enter as the UFC women's bantamweight champion. Tate was the Strikeforce champ when the two first met.
