Phil Mickelson made the rounds to discuss a variety of things going on in his life on Monday, and one of the topics that came up most consistently was his recent split with longtime caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay. The two had been together for 25 years before breaking up last week.

"I think that he's going to have opportunities to be on the bag of some great, great players," Mickelson told Dan Patrick on Monday. "I think a lot of the top players are going to want him on their bag because of his experience, his knowledge, his ability to think clearly under the gun, his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup experiences. Knowing and having such a high golf IQ, I think he's going to be able to bring a lot to the table for a number of players."

This echoes what Mickelson said in his original statement last week.

"Bones is without a doubt one of the most thoughtful people that I have ever known," said Mickelson. "The next player to work with him will obviously be very lucky."

There is no shortage of speculation over who Bones' next boss will be, although nothing has been finalized yet. It's not often we get a good caddie-to-player X story, but this is certainly of that variety.

Every top 15-20 player in the world will probably be rumored to at some point be linked to Bones, but if I had to stake my life on it, I'd say he ends up with Adam Scott. The Aussie uses semi-retired Steve Williams for big events and could be looking for somebody for the long haul. The two would pair nicely together. Who knows if it will happen, but it's sensible for both sides.
