CC Sabathia

CBSSports.com Insider Danny Knobler passes along word that the Yankees have placed ace CC Sabathia on the disabled list because of a groin strain. Barring a setback, he's expected to miss two starts and return shortly after the All-Star break. Freddy Garcia (6.91 ERA in 28.2 innings this season) is expected to start Friday for the Yankees at home against the White Sox.

Sabathia this season has a 3.45 ERA across 15 starts, and he ranks fourth in AL in strikeouts and third in innings pitched. Sabathia suffered the injury during the fourth inning of his most recent start against the Mets, tweets MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. The famously durable lefty hasn't been on the DL since 2006, and the consoling knowledge is that it's not an arm problem.

GM Brian Cashman says the team is leaning toward calling up 24-year-old right-hander Adam Warren to replace Sabathia on the active roster. This season, Warren has a 3.86 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
