Jonathan Broxton to the Reds

The Reds now have a nifty right-handed complement to closer Aroldis Chapman: they've acquired Jonathan Broxton from the Royals, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports and CBSSports.com Insider Danny Knobler confirms.

Broxton, age 28, has a 2.27 ERA in 35.2 innings this season. In large part, he's thrived by keeping the ball in the park (only one home run allowed this season), so it may be challenge to keep that up in his new, hitter-friendly home park.

The move is clearly a case of attempting to "strengthen a strength," as the Reds already boast one of the best bullpens in all of baseball.

Broxton, who's eligible for free agency this winter, is owed the balance of a $4-million salary for 2012.

As for the Royals, they receive minor-league lefty reliever Donnie Joseph and right-handed starter J.C. Sulbaran. Joseph, 24, has pitched at the Double- and Triple-A levels this season, and his overall numbers are impressive: 52.1 IP, 1.72 ERA, 68 whiffs, 14 unintentional walks. Meanwhile, Sulbaran, 22, has a 4.04 ERA in 19 starts for Double-A Pensacola this season.
