2016 MLB Trade Deadline: Lucroy's wild weekend, as told through Twitter
From vetoing a trade to a standing ovation, the Brewers catcher had one crazy weekend
America's Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, presently of the Brewers, has had a bit of an eventful weekend. You'll recall that on Saturday, Lucroy was dealt to the first-place Indians in exchange for a package of prospects.
Adding one of the best all-around catchers in baseball to what was already one of the best teams in baseball? Logical conclusion forthcoming ...

Rational exuberance!
Of course, there was the small matter of Lucroy's contractual rights and privileges ...
The 8 teams Lucroy can block a trade to: #Indians, #Tigers, #Angels, #Twins, #Athletics, #Padres, #Mariners, #Nationals.

That meant leverage for Lucroy, and the thing about leverage is those who have it will use it ...
Sources: Jonathan Lucroy wanted Indians to rip up 2017 club option to get him to waive no-trade clause. Understandably, Cleveland said no.

And ...
Per @bnightengale, #Indians told Lucroy he would be backup C/1B/DH in 17, with Gomes regular C. Team says it simply made Lucroy no promises.

Wonder what Lucroy has against winning a World Series

His reasoning? In part, it was this ...
Lucroy on how vetoing trade squares with his previous comments about wanting to win: "I'm looking for long-term, not short term."
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) July 31, 2016
All right. So by implication he's saying the Indians aren't poised for long-term contention. Consider that to be a bit of ...
So how does all this square with Lucroy's earlier comments about his wanting to be dealt to a contender Well, it doesn't exactly ...
Lucroy was almost literally traded into the ALDS. It's his right to veto, to be sure, but a measure of eye-rolling is warranted.

And now back to Cleveland ...

So ... Angst in Milwaukee thanks to Lucroy's veto? It so happens that Lucroy was summoned to pinch hit in the eighth inning of the Brewers' eventual win over the Pirates on Sunday (MIL 4, PIT 2). Surely, the boos would rain down! Well ...
They're saying "Luuuuuuuc," you know. Not boos. Needless to say, this reaction was not lost on the veto-wielder in question ...
Lucroy said he got reception expected from #Brewers fans when PH in 8th: "The fans here are awesome. They've always treated me great."

Maybe you were surprised that Wisconsin will ride or die for Jonathan Lucroy in the wake of a blocked trade, but Jonathan Lucroy is not. Mr. Lucroy, your thoughts?

Of course, that partial no-trade clause referenced above necessarily doesn't cover all such deadline possibilities, which means Lucroy may yet be ushered out of the Land of Cheese Curds. For instance, here's a sampling from Sunday's rumor roundup post ...

Who's left for Lucroy?
Update: 11:59 a.m. ET
With Jonathan Lucroy invoking his no-trade clause to nix a trade to the Indians, the question now is what his market looks like heading forward. The Rangers and Mets have been the teams most commonly linked to him, and neither can have their efforts thwarted by his no-trade clause. Additionally, Jon Heyman reported this morning that the Dodgers have interest in Lucroy as part of a larger deal. You can bet other, unnamed teams are monitoring the situation as well.
Yep, you'll recall that the non-waiver deadline doesn't come until Monday afternoon, so there's still plenty of time for Lucroy to be shipped off -- likely to a team not on his no-trade list. At this point, perhaps Mr. Lucroy, while still in Brewers garb, would care to gaze skyward in pensive uncertainty?

Thank you.
So in conclusion ...

Consider all these matters to be ... developing.
