With one game left in the season, one NL wild card has been decided, and one is up for grabs. The Mets will host the NL Wild Card Game, and their opponent comes down to the Giants or Cardinals.
If the Giants win on Sunday, they're in. If the Cardinals lose, the Giants are also in.
If the Giants lose and the Cardinals win, the two teams will finish with identical records. Since the Cardinals hold the tiebreaker over the Giants, St. Louis would host a potential play-in game for the second NL wild-card spot on Monday.
Whichever team emerges from the NL Wild Card Game, whether it be the Mets or one of the other two teams still trying to make the postseason, will move on to face the World Series favorites, the Cubs in the NLDS.
