Rangers starter Alexi Ogando (shoulder) threw long toss prior to Tuesday's game against the A's. Ogando told ESPN he is still dealing with some discomfort and will not throw off a mound until it goes away.

"As far as pain it doesn't feel like pain," Ogando said. "It just feels like inflammation."

Rangers starter Alexi Ogando continues to be limited to throwing off flat ground, MLB.com reports Monday. Ogando is waiting for the discomfort in his right shoulder to subside. 

Ogando will not throw off a mound until the discomfort completely goes away. 

He was on the DL from May 16 until June 5 due to triceps tendinitis and is now on the shelf with shoulder inflammation. He's expected to need a rehab assignment, when ready.

He has yet to throw off the mound since landing on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation June 5. The 26-year-old is 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 10 starts.

Rangers starting pitcher Alexi Ogando (shoulder) is expected to resume throwing Friday, MLB.com reports. It'll be the first time he takes the mound since being shut down last week.

Ogando is expected to return as a starter despite landing on the disabled list twice this season. He has been sidelined since June 5. The right-hander is 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 10 starts.

Also at that time, the Rangers are expected to consider their long-term options with Ogando, who has bounced between the rotation and bullpen in his career.

"Alexis" role has been an ongoing debate in the organization since he came to the big leagues," assistant general manager Thad Levine said Sunday, per The Dallas Morning News. "We think he’s a championship caliber pitcher. We want to put him in the best position to succeed for us. And that means keeping him on the field and healthy. We’ll evaluate from every angle and explore all our alternatives to keep him on the field and healthy.

“We view him as a starting pitcher and part of our rotation at this point. We’ve also always said that our staff, as a whole, may look a little different at the end of the season than at the start."
