Chris Coghlan adapting approach as pinch hitter
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan is working on changing his approach and trying to be more aggressive as a pinch hitter, according to The Miami Herald.

Coghlan singled in the seventh as a pinch-hitter Saturday night against the Dodgers. He has not started a game since April 28 and is hitting .444 (4 for 9) as a pinch hitter since his last start.

"It's just something I've got to get adjusted to," said Coghlan, who hasn't started since April 28th and is now 4- for 14 in pinch-hit situations this season.

"I just need to be more aggressive with strikes and just trust my eyes," he said. "I think it was maybe a week ago when I realized I needed to start doing that because I wasn't having as much success as I wanted to. I was trying everything. It's a role I don't have a lot of experience in, but I'm trying to get better at it."

Chris Coghlan OK with playing second base
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan was thrust into action Tuesday at San Diego as the emergency second baseman after Chris Valaika, who was already filling in for Donovan Solano (DL, intercostal strain), suffered a fractured wrist. It was the first time Coghlan played second base since his MLB debut May 8, 2009, according to The Miami Herald.

"I got no problem playing there," Coghlan said of second base. "Besides short, pitcher and catcher I feel I can play anywhere. I have confidence in the abilities I've been given. I take grounders every day for stuff like this. You never expect its going to happen. But that's why it pays to be ready and practice for whatever."

Chris Coghlan could take over at second base
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Marlins utility man Chris Coghlan took over second base for an injured Chris Valaika Tuesday night against the Padres. Coghlan, who replaced Valaika in the eighth, did not receive a plate appearance.

With Valaika dealing with a fractured wrist, the Marlins will likely turn to Coghlan to play second base -- at least for Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. The 27-year-old played second base for the first time since his MLB debut on May 8, 2009.

He is hitting .185 with one RBI in 54 at-bats.
