Cubs' Junior Lake gets the start in left field Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Cubs outfielder Junior Lake is making a rare start in left field, batting seventh on Friday against the Diamondbacks. Lake was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday and is making just his third start of the season.

Lake is replacing Chris Coghlan, who had started each of the last five games. Coghlan is likely just receiving a day off, with no injury being reported.

Cubs OF Chris Coghlan lifts off twice in loss to Padres
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan enjoyed his first multi-homer performance since Sept. 20, 2014 during Tuesday's 4-3 defeat to the Padres.

Coghlan took starter James Shields deep for a solo home run in the third inning, and launched a solo home run off closer Craig Kimbrel with two outs in the ninth. He finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI. He raised his batting average from .194 to .205, with six homers and nine RBI in 38 games.

"I definitely feel like my numbers don't reflect or show how I've hit the ball," Coaghlan said after homering twice, per ESPN.com. "In the long run it will."

Cubs OF Chris Coghlan sits again with lefty on the mound Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan is out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive game on Friday. Coghlan, who bats from the left side, has been shielded against left-handed starters this year, as he is 0 for 5 against southpaws.

So, with a lefty on the mound for the Pirates, manager Joe Maddon is keeping Coghlan on the bench. Matt Szczur, who went 1 for 3 with an RBI on Thursday, will draw the start for the second game in a row, starting in left field and batting seventh.

Cubs' Chris Coghlan hits two-run bomb in win on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Cubs left fielder Chris Coghlan launched his fourth home run of the season on Tuesday. The two-run shot broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Cubs went on to beat the Mets 6-1.

Coghlan, who also walked twice, is batting just .176 with a double, a triple and a home run over his last 10 games.

Cubs give RF Jorge Soler day off Monday vs. Cardinals
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler was given the day off on Monday against the Cardinals. Soler had started each of the Cubs' first 23 games of the season, and with just seven hits in his last 34 at-bats, he seemed due for a rest, though he is riding a modest three-game hitting streak.

Manager Joe Maddon said that while Monday's break was just to give the right fielder a breather, the team will monitor him as the weather heats up, ESPN reports. Soler has previously dealt with leg issues.

"Dehydration is the thing I'm always concerned with," Maddon said. "The hotter it gets the more and more I'm worried about that kind of a thing. We have to be really proactive the next couple of weeks making sure we don't run anyone into the ground."

Chris Denorfia replaced Soler in right field, while Chris Coghlan moved up to the second spot in manager Joe Maddon's batting order.
