After skipping one start to work on his mechanics and confidence, the results have been positive for Red Sox starting pitcher Felix Doubront. He might be 0-1 in two starts since returning to the rotation, but he has a 3.27 ERA and .205 opponents' batting average in those outings.

Doubront opened the season with a 5.67 ERA and .302 opponents' batting average in his first five starts.

"He’s onto something with the adjustments he’s made," Red Sox manager John Farrell said, per The Boston Globe. "I thought (Tuesday against the White Sox) was another positive step for him."

Doubront is also pleased with the turnaround.

"Working every day. I’m seeing the results," Doubront said. "Everything is going in the right direction right now. Just looking forward to my next outing."

Red Sox starter Felix Doubront didn't pitch poorly on Tuesday in Chicago. Unfortunately, he still suffered the loss to fall to 3-2 on the year. 

Jose Quintana was no-hitting the Red Sox until deep in the game and Boston lost 3-1. Doubront allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in the defeat. He struck out three and allowed a two-run homer to Jeff Keppinger in the fifth inning. Doubront's ERA is at 5.61. 

The 25-year-old has given up just two runs in each of his last two starts with 10 Ks over that span of 11 innings. Still, he's walking too many and hasn't earned a win since moving to 3-0 back on April 27. His next scheduled outing comes Sunday against Cleveland. 

Red Sox starting pitcher Felix Doubront, who had not started a game since May 3, endured some command issues as he failed to factor into the decision during Thursday's start against the Rays.

Doubront, who made his sixth start of the season, surrendered a solo home run to Ryan Roberts in the second. The left-hander was charged with two runs and three hits over five innings of work. He struck out seven and walked six in a 4-3 victory.

Doubront lowered his ERA from 6.40 to 6.03 after Thursday's start. He is scheduled to take the hill Tuesday night on the road against the White Sox. He went 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts last season against the White Sox.

After having a career-low .314 BABIP in 2012, Red Sox starting pitcher Felix Doubront has compiled a .420 BABIP through his first six outings (five starts) heading into Thursday's start against the Rays.

"I don’t want to just throw it up to luck," manager John Farrell told the Boston Herald. "You create your own luck and create your own situations to put up a zero and shut an inning off after you’ve recorded two outs."

Doubront will start Thursday for the first time since May 8. The extended layoff was planned to give Doubront the opportunity to throw two bullpen sessions and work with pitching coach Juan Nieves to adjust his stride. The hope is Doubront will generate better velocity and improved command.

"Figuring out little things in my mechanics that help me to stay in line, to stay repeating my delivery and throw more strikes down in the zone," Doubront said. "That kind of helps."

Red Sox starter Felix Doubront made an extra bullpen session appearance Tuesday in advance of his upcoming start Thursday at Tampa Bay, WEEI.com reports. 

Manager John Farrell said he wanted Doubront to work on his stride direction so he doesn't have to throw across his body. The Red Sox believe that could help restore some of his velocity.

"We felt like there are times when he starts to drive to home plate, he can be a little bit off-line and I think that’s affected some of the overall consistency with location to his stuff," Farrell said. "That’s what’s been worked on with the multiple bullpens that he and [pitching coach Juan Nieves] have gone through."
