Twins starting pitcher Samuel Deduno struggled in his season debut Friday, surrendering six earned runs on nine hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings while striking out two.

Deduno had a 2.70 ERA in three starts at Triple-A before Friday. He missed time earlier this season with a groin injury. If he gets another start for the Twins, it'll come at home against the Brewers Wednesday.

Twins starter Samuel Deduno has been called up to start Friday's game against Detroit, the club announced.

Deduno has been slated to start the game since Tuesday, but the Twins had to make a 40-man roster move to call him up. The Twins moved Tim Wood to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Deduno.

Deduno was sidelined by a groin injury for much of April, but he owns a 2.70 ERA through three starts at Triple-A Rochester.

Samuel Deduno will start for the Twins Friday.

The team needed a starter Friday, and three pitchers were being considered. Manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed on MLB Network Radio that Deduno has been picked to make the start. In three Triple-A starts, Deduno has a 2.70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings. 

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Monday that he is unsure who will start Friday against Detroit, MLB.com reports.

Gardenhire said it will either be Kyle Gibson, P.J. Walters or Samuel Deduno to make the start.

Gibson has been dominant in the minors lately but Walters and Deduno have more major league experience at this time.
